RL: This year marks a major milestone for TF. But where did it all begin?

TF: Tony and Chrissie Tomlinson launched the business in 1975. Located in the centre of George Town, it started out as more of a variety store. Forty-five years ago, the business relocated to Walkers Road in a renovated house. In 2014, that was demolished and the three-storey Tomlinson Building constructed in its place; at that point the focus shifted, with furniture and mattresses occupying the first and second floors. While we’ve dramatically expanded our product range and services over the decades, Tomlinson Furniture remains authentically family-owned, now thriving under third-generation leadership.

RL: What treasures can shoppers discover when wandering through Tomlinson Furniture today?

TF: We partner with dozens of top brands including Palliser, Modway, Ashley, and Uttermost to offer furniture for every room in your home. Our inventory covers everything from living room essentials like sofas and entertainment units to dining room furnishings, bedroom suites, outdoor pieces and home office solutions. We also feature an extensive selection of soft furnishings and decorative accents to complete any space.

RL: The Mattress Gallery is a sleep lover’s paradise. What will customers find there?

TF: The Mattress Gallery is truly your one-stop shop for all things sleep-related. We carry premium mattresses from respected brands like Sealy, Serta, Simmons, Beautyrest and Tempurpedic USA, covering all types – innerspring, foam and hybrid – with options at every price point and comfort level. Beyond mattresses, we offer bed frames, bases, toppers, protectors, pillows, bedding – everything for a perfect night’s sleep.

RL: How does Tomlinson Furniture serve customers beyond the off-the-shelf products?

TF: We offer several ways to personalise your home furnishings. Our custom window treatments may be our best-known: we create vertical or horizontal blinds, roller or Roman shades, motorised shades and plantation shutters – all made to perfectly fit the measurements of your windows.

We also offer furniture customisation which allows you to choose everything from the shape to the fabric and the legs of your sofa – and even have it made to your dimensions. We’ve also expanded into custom wallpaper options, where you can select from our sample books or have your own image printed directly onto wallpaper.

RL: What innovations are you rolling out in the coming months?

TF: This summer, we’re particularly excited to launch our Custom Interiors division to elevate the customer experience. Our in-house designers will work with homeowners and businesses to transform ideas into beautiful, functional spaces. Whether you need closet or kitchen design, expert spatial planning, furniture layout guidance, or comprehensive mood boards, our interior designer has the expertise you need. And, for those who prefer a turn-key approach, we also provide complete house packages.

RL: Are there any services even your longtime customers might not know about?

TF: Many people don’t realise we maintain a robust wholesale division serving hotels, restaurants, healthcare facilities and educational institutions. We also offer complimentary island-wide delivery to all customers, both residential and commercial. It’s all part of our commitment to making furnishing your space as seamless as possible. Also, if we don’t have a particular item or style in stock, we can place a special order, ensuring our clients’ needs are always met.
