EDIE’S | 45 YEARS OF FAMILY, QUALITY & INNOVATION,
CAYMAN ISLANDS
Edie’s, one of Cayman’s most trusted names in interior coverings, celebrates 45 years in business in 2026. Siblings Jonathan and Karen Edie share the story behind their family business, the innovations they’re bringing to the island and why integrity is at the heart of everything they do.
Tell us about Edie’s origins and founders.
JE: Our parents, Isaac and Rhonda, founded Edie’s in 1981. Both had worked for another flooring business previously and Dad was considered one of the best carpet and tile installers on the island. With three children and a fourth on the way, they wanted to create a better life for their family.
Cayman was just starting to develop in the ‘80s. The first condos and hotels were being built, so it was an opportune time to be involved in construction. They opened the business in a house on Eastern Avenue that they bought from our aunt. We still operate from the same location today, although the premises have expanded considerably.
The second generation are now running the business. Was that always the plan?
KE: As kids we helped out when we weren’t at school – bagging purchases, filing, even installations. But there was never any pressure to join full-time. We all went to university and pursued different careers and now all four siblings – Jonathan, myself, Devon and Teresa – have returned to continue the family legacy together.
RL: What are some of the values Edie’s was founded on that you are carrying forward?
JE: There is so much respect for our father across the island, from past employees, clients and contractors and that inspires us all. Edie’s was built on quality products, customer service and integrity. We’re not just trying to make a sale – we genuinely want to guide clients towards the materials and choices that will meet their needs and lifestyle long-term, rather than simply following trends.
RL: What are the most popular flooring materials you supply?
JE: Although Edie’s started out primarily as a carpet supplier, it’s rarely requested these days. Porcelain tiles are our hero product now. They can be manufactured to look like wood, marble, concrete and more, in sizes up to 4x4 foot. We also work a lot with luxury vinyl, a versatile product that can be laid onto existing floors without the mess and expense of a full re-tile.
RL: Edie’s has evolved beyond floors. What else do you offer?
KE: We specialise in custom window coverings. Our mother launched that side of the business and when she retired, I took over. We offer everything from draperies and Roman shades to shutters and motorised options, and we have a workroom on-site where we create all our soft coverings and offer upholstery services.
JE: We also supply wall coverings and recently brought in a range of European-designed countertop and pedestal sinks that are unlike anything else available on island.
RL: What are some new products or services that you now offer customers?
JE: It’s an exciting time in the industry with lots of innovations and we always strive to lead the way. One new product is EcoWood, a composite wood product that looks and feels like natural wood but requires none of the maintenance.
Another is SPC. These eco-friendly wall panels are available in designs that mimic marble, fabric, wood and more, but are more affordable and easier to install. As they’re 100% waterproof they’re ideal for bathrooms and backsplashes.
We’re also implementing virtual reality technology that lets clients visualise our products in their actual spaces – almost like taking a photo and seeing exactly how that tile or covering will look in your room. It’s exciting and really helpful for decision-making.
RL: What does this 45 year anniversary mean to you?
KE: Recently, I met with a client who remembered my mother from when she was a child, working with her mother. Now we’re helping the next generation renovate the same condo. It’s those full-circle moments that make you appreciate what we’re doing. We’re blessed to still be here, to serve multiple generations of families and we’re so grateful to our clients who’ve supported Edie’s for 45 years.
